First time pleural tap

After starting my internship, I did a pleural tap for the first time. The patient was a middle aged male with right sided pleural effusion. Although I was nervous at the begining of the procedure, a bit of inspiration from the senior post graduate student wavied it off. I was not succesful in the first attempt, but in the second I was able to aspirate some pleural fluid. The patient had pain even though I have infilterated the puncture site with local anaesthetic. Anyway the procedure went well and I gave him a shot of analgesics at the end .
